White memories of times goneby
They dive up like waves of time: white flecks on the red setter. Even the so called "Shower of hail Irish setters" with indeed small white flecks over the coat as if a shower of hail has dropped permanently. This documents a red setters history, being a descendant of many coloured setters. White memories of times gone by focuses on white on red and red on white. Main actors will be direct family divided over two now separated breeds, once one breed. For now highlighting Harriets history.

Star in the making
Sheridan smelled victory on trials before, although she did not win at the time. "Without getting carried away I think I have a star on my hands", he wrote Harriets breeder, confessing he was rarely in control and she mostly out of control. Convinced of stardom, the future hope enjoyed royal feeding with under more chicken wings, raw eggs, minced steak, honey and olive oil.

Both owner and breeder were in the clouds after the victory. Congratulations for the trialer were even from people who did not like the import of the Dutchie. Harriets mother Graigrua Goldie, is bred by Jim Sheridan. As well a litter sister is in the Netherlands, Craigrua The Goshawk owned by Dirk Westera.
Rebaptized
Harry was the only red and white pup in a litter born at Joop Harms place in Uden, around Spring 1998. In his early days the official dog registration of the Dutch kennel described him as an Irish setter red. Later with the help of many friends, he was given a pedigree as a red and white Irish setter. That way divorced from his litter brothers and -sisters.
This dog became known in setter circles, especially since a publication in the Irish Times heading Like a Bat out of Hell. He wrote history under more by winning a field trial in the USA, during celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the National Red Setter Field Trial Club in the Kentucky Wildlife Reservate in 2001. And he was the first red and white Irish setter to gain a second place in the European championship for working Irish setters in Germany, 2005.

Harry's offspring spread worldwide. They provide the red and white Irish setter broader lineage, under more by Danish lines of Tommy Pedersen under whom the in Scandinavian and German setter circles well known stud dog Lasse. Described by Pedersen as his very best ever
His red family lives on as well. A sister, Grouse, allround hunting dog, had a litter in 2006 sired by Echlin O'Conloch. Daughters of them are available for breeding, one stayed at the breeders place and another, Innes, after a short childhood with some field experiences in the O'Conloch kennel, moved to Dirk Westera (Of the Lands End Irish Setters).
Racing horizons
Harriet stayed for a long time in Holland before being able to leave for Ireland, Summer 2006. This was due to import regulations of Ireland for rabies. Breeder Mirck got help from Cobie Stooker who cared for her litter brother also leaving for Ireland. Harriet came over here, where she met her first grey partridge and pheasants. At that time she already seemed a little star, racing horizons. A clip of her playing with red pups just before leaving is on this site, click Flashes from litters, movies.

PS
Harriet won after writing this two more trials, enough to get the title of Irish Field Trial Champion. On September 12th and 13th in trials during celebration of the Centennial of the Ulster Irish Red Setter Club, she topped amidst of forty top setters and pointers.
"That makes a result of which a continental European breeder normally only can dream of", Gerard Mirck reacted. Her trialler/owner Jim Sheridan thinks that she will win even more in future.
As soon as possible this site will focus here on the life stories of both winning red and white setters from red fore bearers. It will take readers to breathtaking parts of this world. As well an authentic card of Ireland in centuries gone by will be reproduced here with on it the old (red and red and white) setter tribes, made late twenties last century, a kind of monks work. Harry & Harriet make this old card alive.
